Meet the Cornerstone Advisors: Doug Stevens

At Cornerstone Safety Group, we’re honored to have industry leaders as our advisors and thought partners. Our advisors across a wide array of disciplines provide perspective, guidance, and industry insights to our staff and members.

Throughout this blog series, we’ll be introducing some of our advisors and learning more about how the travel industry captured their attention.

This January, meet Doug Stevens!

Tell us about how you began in the industry and your connection to your specialty.

I began by defending lawsuits against outdoor recreational providers. Once I realized how traumatic and time-consuming it was for these folks to be involved in such a situation, I realized I would like to work with these companies and individuals to assist with their risk management, legal documents, and other facets of their operations to minimize the chances of a future claim against them and to ensure they are as prepared as possible if a claim does arise.

Why did you decide to be an advisor to Cornerstone and how do you hope to serve our members?

I have known Dave [Dennis, Executive Director for Cornerstone] for many years and he has been a trusted friend and highly respected voice in the industry for me from the time we met. From the moment he told me about his plans for Cornerstone, I knew this was an organization and a mission I wanted to be involved with. It serves the needs of the adventure travel and experiential education industry in a manner that has never been done before and does so in a cost-efficient and sensible fashion. As an attorney for many organizations in the industry, I am thrilled to be affiliated with a group that so capably assists my clients, by offering my voice and input as a legal advisor for the organization and its members.

What is a goal you hope to accomplish in 2022?

Travel to new and exciting places with my family and expose my children to all that these places have to offer! Oh, and hopefully break four hours in the marathon!
